ETBlogs Sports: Win division or position for playoffs?

  • pasta diving lugo · 2 years ago
division title is VERY important to the yankees as that means a home field advantage to them. two of their starters Wang and Clemens have a significant era diff at home. So if you want to eliminate the yankees in the first round, win the al league championship and force them to play their first series on the road, which will probably mean a loss for them.

HOWEVER not going through NY to the serious is not a real championship. And a short series that features diceyK could mean we'll be out the first round.

AND if there is anyone with any brains at all in the post season strategizing dept YOU NEED TO GIVE DICEY-K A DAY OFF. He needs at least one round off from the next rotation. If you pitch him, look for him to be toast in the post season. Okajima may just be toast already.

Presuming a Yankee 6 and 0 (which is a lot of presuming; the pesky draze should win at least one; the O's will roll over for them) , 5-1 wins it. 4-2 ties it which is a loss (don't forget, the Yankees won the head to head contests during the season). I think we go 3 and 3. losing the pennant is manny's fault. Yanks go 5 and 1 and take it.

manny needs to be outta here at the end of the season. I'd take barry bonds before seeing that nitwit in a sox uniform again. the area is a leader in medical technology. barry would be a perfect match. particularly if theo and lucky larry are still here. what a nauseating thought.

The A's will play us tough at Fenway and the Twinkies can win 2 behind Santana once and some rookie trying to make next season's rotation, proving he can pitch in a big time matchup. In fact the A's will be throwing a rookie against Schwill. These are the most problematic of opponents as there is no track record, only some video tape for the guys to look at. branton can outpitch lester, too.

the only thing we have going for us is fenway where no lead is safe. do we really want to use Popplearm that much in the final week? I don't think so. So it's gagne front and center and I predict he will rise to the occasion a couple of times and then really suck another couple of times.

I would rather start some of our rookies and watch them lose, than throw dicey-k or becky or wake and have them enter the post season with another loss. the rookies have a better chance of winning than our regs. givem a shot.

I really don't expect anything from wake in the post season. His post season stats are poor; the knuckle does not giggle in cold weather. The last however many post seasons have proved that. I wouldn't even bring him in relief. He's done his job. and a fabulous job it was. 16 wins. I had him at 11 or 12. that's huge.

Keep sending gagne out there. he needs the work and the more he gets the better his chances of looking like the gagne of old. bucholtz is the key to the bullpen in the post season.

cora starts a ss. i never want to see lugo play again in a red sox uniform. theo's shame.

    GO SAWKS!!!!!

Having everyone FRESH going into the Playoffs is Key. Having the rotation and the Pen ready will carry us to the WS.
Manny needs to get back in line-up a.s.a.p. His injury is one of the main reasons we lost the large lead. He needs some at-bats to get ready for the post season. Okie will be fine..strong and rested. The Yanks have spent way too much energy trying to take over 1st
The yankee pin is overworked and tired....A-Rod a force...but a force of 1 will not hurt the sox. Jeter is hurt...and it shows.
If the sox get Youk and Manny back healthy and ready....Get ready for another Parade!

mark, clearly you know nothing about the yankees. a-rod isn't exactly a force right now. in fact, he (along with melky) might be their coolest bat. he's been in a funk for a while and has been stuck on 52 homers for about that many at-bats, i believe. and jeter's playing great ball over the last 11 games. all it took was a little red sox pitching to get him healthy. as for their 'pin', it's hardly looked overworked and tired lately. at least no more than any other 'pin' in late september. joba's thrown well, vizcaino's been decent, and mariano, while not the mariano of old, is still fairly solid.
other than that, brilliant analysis. enjoy your parade.

good post oil can; there seems to be a time delay in getting the news in boston. arod was cooled off because he was getting no protection from matsui who has been hot his last 3 games. I expect you'll see him return to hrs 53-56 during the raze series.

the biggest non reported news is this: if the red sox lose two games there is no magic number. so the magic as "combination of yankee losses and red sox wins" goes away as soon as the sawks lose two.

i don't know about you, but the a's look like magic number eaters to me.

well, that's it. now that nitwit in the herald can write IT'S OVER!

devastating yankee loss, complete meltdown in tampa. do you realize the raze can win the season series with the yankees tomorrow?

george hates to lose to the redsox, mets and tampa. he must be on life support tonight,

i mean you can't hold a 5 nothing lead over a team like tampa. are you -----ing me?!!! vizcaino with a tired arm. and clemens with a hammy tweaked. looks like the wheels are coming off.

arod needs four more ribis to tie joe dimaggio. that's a helluva season. but not to win a ring can be his out from new york.
i don't think the yankees will make the second round. so it's beat cleveland and the halos and jesus we have the same ownership group i can't stand and looks like i don't know what i'm talking about. or join the yankees watching cleveland and the halos play for the al championship.

i have found it awfully hard to root for this team the past two years. i just don't like them. the 2004 team had soul and then theo and lucky larry sold them off. i'm rooting for pedro and the mets this year. and the cubbies who might take it all.

has anyone noticed that Melky Cabrera is hitting .186 for the month of September. Still playing great defensive ball but how 'bout putting that black hole into your lineup? and how about minky hitting almost .500 since coming back from his injury. do you put his .220 bat into the post season based on his recent play?

based on their celebration last night, I've put the yankees back into my playoff mix. there's something to be said for the way they've handled themselves this year.

and i'm upgrading my sawks. Manny will be in fine form and JD Drew looks like he could be a factor (I can't believe I just wrote that) so this could be red sox yankees for the al pennant. In fact I think that is what it is. Yanks take cleveland; sawks take halos in a heart attack fifth game at fenway.

i love the rivalry. best baseball of the decade. this and last.
