ETBlogs Sports: Retire No. 80: Yea or nay?

I think that Troy Brown's number should be retired. He has been a Patriot for 15 years and has had very good numbers over that time period. Troy is a very nice person and is tough enough to be playing again. People call him Mr. Patriot. They don't say that about Tom Brady, Tedy Bruschi, Richard Seymour, exc. I think that his number definately should be retired.

It's the longevity, and the numerous amounts of BIG plays he's made over the years. Plus, look at how many times he got cut, and kept making it back on the team in the Parcells era. He's a fighter. He exemplifies what it means to be a Patriot. Maybe he was never the #1 WR on the roster, but on 3rd and 7, you always knew where the ball was going. Retire #80!

I don't think they should retire his number. He made ONE pro bowl in 15 years and I believe had 100 catches once as well, in that same season. He was also a good player but not a great player. He is a great guy and a great teammate, but his number shouldn't be retired. Retiring of numbers should be somethin reserved for the best of the best, much like the Red Sox do it. Look at all of the great Red Sox players over the years and even the great guys they had on their teams for long period of time, and look how many are retired. If you are going to retire Troy Brown's number, how about Bruschi? Brady is the only current Patriot that I see having his number definatley retired, with Seymour having a pretty good chance as well.
