Not upset at all. The Yankees now have the 4 highest paid players in baseball, and I'm guessing the highest payroll in the history of professional sports. The NY press will go bonkers the first time they hit a 3 game losing skid. That much ego on one team is doomed to self-implode. I'm looking forward to watching it.

Who cares about their freakin payroll? They can afford it!
Money doesn't matter. It's not my money, and it's not yours. That means nothing.
What means something is that the Sox now have a GAPING hole is Lowell can't comeback, and the Yankees are strong as ever.

The press and NY fans will care a lot. The expectations will be unbearable, basically anything less than 1110 wins and a 4 game sweep in the World Series will be a failure. You think playing for Atlanta and Texas prepared Tex for that kind of pressure?

Very happy that Sox didn't pick up TEX. What has this guy ever done. He has played in one post season series and from what i remember of that his team was on the short end of that one thanks to our Sox. He is a lifetime .290 hitter. As much as I hate Boras he did a masterful job creating a buzz about this guy. Yanks are gonna have a case of buyers remorse at this price point though. They overpaid by about 8 million per year cause there was no one out there but "headcase Manny". Yanks would have been better off paying Manny to DH for 3 years. At least Manny has hit in the clutch and won. Can't wait till TEX he has to play the Sox 19 times. I think he is under .200 lifetime in Fenway. Paying any of these guys for 8 yrs is dumber than dumb. Yanks won a decade ago by having a nucleus of home grown farm talent and haven't won a series since they tried to buy one. We own CC Sabathia. He was pitching well in the National League. Welcome to the American League East. AJ Burnett has had his most productive years when it is a contract year. He will be injured by JUNE. This is gonna be one of the greatest train wrecks that Yankees fans have ever witnessed and I am going to enjoy every minute of it. If anyone just takes a look at the potential Red Sox lineup that Bill posted for next year and isn't impressed than they don't know anything about baseball. When June comes and the other teams around the league are falling behind they will be offering up some big bats with more reasonable contracts (especially in this economy) and the Sox will pick someone up if necessary. We can spend some money for more pitching now. You never have enough of that. Remember some of the best deals the Sox have made have been the non deals. Sox were in on the Pavano negotiations too. Look how that ended up.

He's a bum, but naturally if the Sux had signed him it would have been the best signing in the history of professional sports. Only two teams have won a WS title anyways with a payroll in excess of $100 million so they literally had to buy both titles. Anyone want to venture a guess as to who both teams are? Your agony and clear penis envy of New York just never gets old. This is an early XMas gift to those of us who hate the Yankees and the fraudulent "Nation". Your agony is gorgeous!

This really means nothing for the Sox. Tex would've made Boston a better team but, they are still a great team w/o him.
My only problem with all of this is the way the Red Sox upper management handled this. If Tex was their off season priority from the get-go, than they should have been prepared to spend a lot of money to acquire the much coveted first basemen. (Especially having to deal with Boras) They got all the fans and some players excited about the possiblility of having Tex on the 09 roster.
They didn't sign him and now they have to kiss a$$ to Lowell since he's the guy returning to Spring Training. Not to mention Lowell turned down more money from the Phillies after the World Series to continue his tenure as a Red Sox player. I know health now comes into play but Lowell has only had one bad season in Boston and let's see if he will demand a trade outta here!
For the Yankees, all this means is that they will have high expectations as they always do each year. They are just desperate and trying to buy a championship for their fans. This will hurt them in the long run just like every other contract they get themselves into. Only time will tell how this will look for them this coming season, but expect the Yankees to be a slight bit better this year. Offense is great to have no question, but pitching, defense, and timely hitting wins championships and that's what the Sox are building starting with their own farm system.
