ETBlogs Sports: Deal-breaker is Lester, not Ellsbury

    Nonsense!

This is a deal the Sox need to walk away from. Too much talent to give up for a guy who plays 33 games year. Santana might win 18-20 but Lester is going to come close to that and he's not the payroll hog that JS will be. And, keeping Beckett with JS around is going to mean matching or beating what JS is looking for. Make a run in FA next year and keep the kids. Trade Crisp for a good BP arm or catcher.

I see what Rob is saying but the Red Sox are also playing defence. As a Red Sox fan, I really don't want the Yankees getting Santana because I would hate Santana pitching against us for 7 years and A-Rod hitting against us for 10 years. Also, we gave up Hanley Ramirez for Josh Beckett and look how that turned out. I think that Ellsbury will not be as good as Hanley Ramirez and Santana will probably be better than Beckett. I think that the Red Sox should trade Ellsbury if they have to do it to make the deal work. With Santana and Beckett, you are going to be a great team for a very long time.
